READ ➡️ A week later and I’m still buzzing from the interactions I had @theotherartfair London. The most condensed four day experience that took me prepping since November for.

Slide1: “When it’s all finished you can sell it for £10,000. I will”. An interactive and collaborative art piece I made life at @theotherartfair day 3 and 4. Guests were encouraged to colour and leave their artistic mark on there as well. No rules, no restrictions 💥

OKUNRIN explained: So I never do this but I’ll explain every part of “Okunrin” to show how my mind works.

Slide 1: my eyes, both yellow for effect but one clearly looney toon inspired while the other leans to my actual eye shape. If my skin was ripped off my other eye would surely be cartoon like. I’m a cartoon trapped in a human body.

Slide 2: the bow tie is a nod to formal dressing, my lawyer wardrobe basically. For those new here, yes I am a lawyer.

Slide 3: my literal take on the Nigerian slang bomb dey your head. Meaning it’s urgent/ you’re in danger / look out for/ be careful. Also the bomb is the bomb from the Super Mario games, which I obviously ODed on as a child.

Slide 4: the anticipated BOOM of a bomb, deliberately cut short to have your mind auto fill it but also to show I am about to blow.

Slide 5: my eyelashes because all my life women around me have been jealous of my long eyelashes. You don’t want them breaking in your eyes though. 🔪

Slide 6: @mrkensho on a sunny day with a surreal looking flower and bed of clouds for shade.

Slide 7: a close up of my eye, my eye dey red. Meaning I’m looking for money. It’s reddddd 😂

Slide 8: a golden pyramid to suggest Egyptian enlightenment and a stack of brick$$$

Slide 9: After Cartoon Network, the next biggest influence on me is definitely anime AND no anime has impressed me as much as Akira. I don’t revisit it as much but it’s so memorable. Also Astro boy boot had to make a cameo. For aesthetics.

Slide 10: the bomb is tiny because it’s supposed to double as my hair bun. I’ve kept my hair for the last 2 years and 5 months. I used to be ‘bald’.

Slide 11: I’ve been obsessed with chess since April 2023, growing stronger every day #

Slide 12: a dinosaur inspired by Rugrats, a colour swap obvs

Slide 13: a nod to the actual colour palette I am sticking to for the foreseeable future.

Slide 14: my actual skin tone, taken from a picture and painted with a hard texture brush I got from @iamrenike in 2019. Also the flow is to depict my now healthy skin, I used to have black spots and hyper pigmentation.

1. @africanartfinder Sukai of @casildart_contemporary , opening night of Black and Global Majority Art Fair, 13th December, 2024.

2. First all nighter of base colours, rendering etc. It took one month of daily all nighters to make this. Yup.

3. One of said nights, took breaks every 30 minutes or so, because the technique is beautiful but the toll on my hands cause constant iteration 😩😩

4. 20% done. This piece is on A1 fine art 350gsm paper, 59.4 x 84.1cm. For context that’s maybe 12 times the size of a big notebook.

5. More % done ✨

6 - 7. Closeups of 100%. Different lighting, paper retains a lot of its whiteness so it changes appearances under different lighting.

8. Black & Global Majority Art Fair poster. Not my work.

9. NEON IV or Deep Zima Blue (2024) on display at @casildart_contemporary, bottom row centre. Exhibited to the general public for a little over a month.

10. Yesterday, coming off the wall. Thank you for all the feedback and love 🫶🏾

11. Close up after framing with museum glass and the most durable aluminium frame I’ve ever seen. Framing by @gallery18_picture_framers , Loughborough. Phenomenal job!!!

2024: It’s been a year of (silent) growth, recalibration, and new beginnings for me and my art.

After some transformative experiences, I have revisited my #Neon abstract roots, aiming to strike a fresh balance moving forward.

Highlights this year:

• Joined @mpndprojects as an associate and now a resident artist with an in-gallery studio and exciting plans for 2025!

• Became a member of the @visualartistsassociation and started working with my incredible art mentor, Karen VHS.

• Exhibited two digital art pieces with @theholyartgallery, London.

• Currently exhibiting an abstract NEON piece with @Casildart_contemporary in Marble Arch, London.

Shoutout to everyone who reached out: @Yasser_fw, @Khalidbalogun02, @nkemka_uche, @Quacktails.ng, @Ufo_south, Prianka, Omorion, Ademidayo, Ekemini —and that one follower who so sincerely asked where I was, bless you.
